Special programs

UCLA Physics & Astronomy recognizes the value of special programs that enable graduate and undergraduate students the opportunity to experience the field outside of regular curricula and academic opportunities.

One of these is the Research Experience for Undergratuates program. UCLA offers a research experience program in Physics and Astronomy in which undergraduate students will work with a faculty mentor, as well as other professors, researchers and graduate students on a research project.

All interested students are invited to apply for this 10 week summer program. Participants will gain direct experience by working in ongoing experimental or theoretical research programs in plasma and beam physics, solid state physics, astrophysics and high-energy physics.

Another program, UC Leads, offers Leadership Excellence through Advanced Degrees (UC LEADS) program to educate California's future leaders by preparing promising students for advanced education in science, technology, mathematics and engineering (STEM). The program is designed to identify upper-division undergraduate students with the potential to succeed in these disciplines, but who have experienced situations or conditions that have adversely impacted their advancement in their field of study.
